The Journey Begins

Hi! My name is Bailey, and we are about to embark on my (ongoing) fitness journey. First, I want to start off by introducing myself and my story.

I am 22 years young, and all throughout my youth, I was very active and fit. I played softball, volleyball, and basketball through middle school, and once in high school I just focused on softball. Going from 3 sports to one may seem like it would take a toll on your fitness and activity level, but it just meant that I had that much more time for the sport that I loved. I played year round (even having indoor tournaments during the winter months!) and LOVED every second of it. Everyone always told me about the “Freshman 15,” but I never listened to any of them. I was so active, why would I be one to gain weight as soon as I stopped playing sports? I never put 2 and 2 together.

My first semester of college was great. I was at a JC near home and lived with my parents as a way to save money and time. I was mildly active, but nowhere near how active I was in high school and leading up to it. I slowly started working more and more and having less and less time to make it to the gym. I wasn’t seeing any weight gain, so why would I need to go to the gym? Ha, cute thought, Bailey.

Next thing I know, I moved out of my parents house and into my own apartment with a roommate. At first, things were still so great! …and then I started to eat out a LOT more. Who knew that making your own meals 100% of the time would get so tiring so quickly!? I sure didn’t. My roommate and I would go out on late night extravaganzas to eat anything under the sun. Sometimes we would end up at the grocery store to find something to bring home and make at the apartment, but more often than not we would end up at some restaurant or another. Both of our go-to meal was PASTA! (I mean, mine still is, but I’m working on that!) There is nothing better than a huge bowl of chicken alfredo topped with parmesan and a piece of garlic bread on the side.

Fairly quickly I put on about 40 pounds (what happened to the Freshman FIFTEEN!?), and luckily that is about where I plateaued. It’s been about 3 years since then and I STILL have that weight. You would think that my wedding this past May would have been my biggest motivation to date, and I thought so too at first.. It turned out not to be so true. So, here I am. I have tried SO many times to start a different diet, new workout routine, and nothing seems to ever stick. I lose motivation so quickly, and I get mad at anyone who tries to hold me accountable (my husband especially!), so I decided to take a new approach. This blog. Maybe, just maybe, by writing a blog post every week to track my successes and losses, I will hold myself more accountable for what I am doing and achieving.

Thanks for joining me!
